Women of a certain age will be replacing wardrobes, and Sunderland fans will be crying into their drinks. Scientists have discovered that the fashion mantra that wearing vertical stripes make you look thinner is false. Horizontal stripes are more flattering. The accepted wisdom from fashion sty;ists is that vertical stripes appear to elongate your figure. Dr Peter Thompson, a psychologist and expert say the reverse.
